Like most people, I’ve about had it with the legislature’s absurd redistricting dance. Republican politicians are using every trick they can to protect themselves with absolutely no regard for fairness or genuine representation. Communities have been split between different districts and the lines have been redrawn in so many bizarre ways that people are left unsure of who their elected officials are supposed to be.
I believe the only answer is for Texas to join the states that have established an independent, nonpartisan redistricting commission. Furthermore, career politicians should be barred from membership in it. Ordinary citizens should be appointed. Instead of politicians telling the people who they get to vote for, the people should tell politicians where they get to run.
